Author’s note: I’m writing a science fantasy novel. I also have a ton of other projects vying for my attention. I plan to pitch my novel to traditional publishers when its done, but I’m getting to know myself more and I’m afraid if I don’t publish chapters of the novel as I go, I’ll never find the time to actually work on it. So this is my way of forcing myself to complete my novel. I’m sure the final novel will be a least a little different from this serialization—in fact I know the title will be different! I’ll be changing it to “Protrepsis: Mind Over Machine” or “Protrepsis: The Ascent of The Philosopher-King—I’m not sure which yet.
If you want to join me on this journey and read the initial version of Block World, then upgrade to a paid subscription and enjoy the ride with me. The more paid subs, the more eustress will accumulate and the more time I’ll be able to justify allocating to writing it. But no matter what, I am going to write this freakin’ novel—this is just another step towards that end.
Make sure to read chapter 1 and 2 through the links below before diving in on chapter 3 below below.
Thanks for joining me on the journey to Block World!
Happiness is not wholly an elusive endeavor, but so often it betrays a diametrical relationship to the amount of effort put into attaining it.
Kindred Powderdry, “On Happiness” in the Space Sage Handbook
“Where am I?” Block asked himself.
“Why are you so downcast, Fredric Block?” came the numinous voice of the Woman.
“You again.” Block retorted in surprise. “Where am I? What’s going on?”
His surprise quickly transformed into accusatory rage.
“It’s you! You got me into this fiasco! I was allured by your call, and now I’m—well, I’m wherever I am and… where the hell am I? Where are you?!” he demanded.
“I am here” proclaimed the voice, and suddenly her majestic visage burst into Block’s awareness.
